Cohn Holdings to launch new real estate venture.

Cohn Holdings will grow its investment portfolio to include additional real estate holdings.  After successfully developing residential and commercial real estate for over two decades, Michael and Daniel, will focus on the burgeoning real estate markets in Florida and California.  Initial projects scheduled for 2017 include the acquisition of a multimillion dollar residence in Los Angeles which is currently in development and a mixed use project in South Florida scheduled for Q4.  Stay tuned for more news.

New Uniforms for Sports Teams in Alabama and Florida Public Schools

Athletic programs are a vital part of public school education including the life lessons that organized sports provides such as working as a team, overcoming adversity, and the rewards of hard work.  Cohn Holdings Partners in Education is proud to support funding campaigns for new uniforms at Rockway Middle School in Miami, Florida and J.F. Cohn Holdings Announces Partners In Education Initiative


Being active members in local communities has always been important to the Cohn family.  Daniel and Michael Cohn are pleased to announce their Partners in Education initiative providing need based support for public schools.  Initial funding will include literacy programs, diversity education, nutritional support, technology, arts, and athletics. Marvin's Sale to Tyndale Advisors



  • On August 7, 2015, Marvin's Inc. ("Marvin's") announced that it had agreed to be acquired by Tyndale Advisors, an affiliate of its primary supplier.  The transaction is expected to enhance Marvin's growth plan to be a leading home improvement retailer across the Southeast. Terms were not disclosed by the parties. Sagent Advisors acted as the exclusive financial advisor to Marvin's and Jones Day was Marvin's legal advisor on the transaction.

Marvin's Building Materials and Home Centers Announces New Location

Marvin's Building Materials and Home Centers today announced plans to open a new store in Camilla, Georgia. The store is currently under construction on the corner of Highway 19 and Oakland Avenue/Georgia Route 112. It will be located in the previous Wal-Mart location, next to the new Super Wal-Mart. "We are excited to announce our newest store in Camilla, Georgia. We have been looking for a site in Camilla for some time now and we were fortunate to find an available building at the most convenient intersections for shoppers in the area," said Darrin Gilliam, CEO. The store will feature a 30,000 square foot home center in addition to an attached lawn and garden center and drive through lumberyard. Marvin’s is known for its friendly, neighborhood stores that make home improvement projects easy and affordable and will offer a complete line of building materials, appliances, electrical, plumbing, paint, millwork, hardware, tools, and lawn and garden products. The store is expected to open in late October of 2015 according to Marvin’s owner, Michael Cohn, who commented, "We like to be members of the local community where we open a store and we look forward to introducing our Marvin’s team to the citizens of Camilla, Mitchell County, and the surrounding areas."

"Just as we've found in many of our new stores, feedback from the city indicates that we will capture a great deal of sales that are currently being served outside of the city and county. We would like to thank Paige Gilchrist with the Mitchell County Development Authority, the City Council, Mayor Twitty, and the entire city administration for their support." said Gilliam.

Marvin's will hire approximately 25 associates to work in the new store. "We like to hire friendly people from the community as all of our stores have a 'hometown' feel," said Gilliam. The Camilla Chamber of Commerce is collecting employment applications for all open positions beginning June 22, 2015. People who are interested may pick up and turn in their application Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm at the Camilla Chamber of Commerce located at 212 E Broad St, Camilla, GA 31730. The company was founded in 1945 by Marvin Cohn in Gadsden, Alabama and expanded into a multi-chain home center by his son, Alfred. Marvin’s is celebrating their 70th Anniversary of doing business in the Southeast. It is currently operated by third generation owners Michael and Daniel Cohn. Marvin's has 28 additional stores in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Marvin’s was named the 2012 Entrepreneur of the Year by the Lumber and Building Material Journal and was awarded the 2010 Retailer of the Year by the Home Channel News.

Marvin's New location Open In Ozark, Alabama

Marvin’s Grand Opening Celebration!

Marvin’s will have a soft opening at the end of next week to include a Saturday Morning Special event from 7 am – 11 am on May 2nd. The Grand Opening sale and celebration starts Friday, May 8th at which time Marvin’s Building Materials and Home Centers will have its official “Board Cutting” ceremony at 1:00 p.m. “We are in the home improvement business, so we celebrate our grand openings with a board cutting instead of a ribbon cutting. It also allows for several city officials and store associates to take a swipe at the board instead of one person cutting the ribbon. It took a team working together to open this store and we celebrate our victories with the team.” stated Myron Kelley, Project Manager.

A free lunch will be provided for those in attendance on May 8th & 9th from 11 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friday’s lunch will be hot dogs and hamburgers provided by Great Southern Wood. The Ozark Board of Education volunteered to host the Saturday lunch. “We like to partner with area clubs to support our community” said Glen Cogley, store manager. "We look forward to other upcoming events that we can partner with all the clubs in the Ozark area in a meaningful and impactful way."

The Ozark Store Team encourages the community to come out and tour their new store. There will be drawings for door prizes on Friday, May 8th and Saturday, May 9th.
